Reflection - Walking faithfully with God

How do you think Enoch walked with God?
PHOTO: How do you think Enoch walked with God? What would be the life of someone who walks faithfully with God look like?

Based on Chapter 6 of In The Beginning by Bishop Dr. Robert M. Solomon, Enoch’s walk with God was about a deep, lifelong friendship and absolute trust, rather than just following religious rules or ticking boxes.

Here is what it means and how a faithful person's life looks today, explained simply in point form:

How Enoch Walked with God
  • Constant companionship: Enoch did not just visit God on weekends. He went through his whole daily routine—working, raising family, eating—together with God.
  • Going in the same direction: Walking together means you don't run ahead or trail behind. Enoch aligned his lifestyle, desires, and decisions completely with God’s will.
  • Deep intimacy: It was a close, personal relationship built on deep trust, active listening, and continuous prayer, lasting for over 300 years.

What a Faithful Life Looks Like Today
  • Daily quiet time: Starting the day by talking to God and reading the Bible before checking WhatsApp or social media.
  • Honesty at work and school: Choosing not to cheat, lie, or take shortcuts, even when peers or colleagues pressure you to do so just to get ahead.
  • Loving others selflessly: Going out of your way to help neighbours, care for the needy, and forgive people who offend you, just like Jesus did.
  • Trusting God during tough times: Keeping your peace and faith intact when facing sudden retrenchment, family issues, or illnesses, knowing God is still in control.

Dear Lord
PHOTO: "Dear Lord, Thank You for the example of Enoch. When we read about him, we are reminded that a faithful life is not about being famous or doing religious tasks for show. It is about a deep, daily friendship with You.

Enoch walked with You for centuries in complete trust, adjusting his pace to match Yours, going wherever You led, and talking to You through every ordinary moment of his day. Lord, we want to walk like that too.

Help us to live a life that walks faithfully with You today:

Keep us close to You: Let us start and end each day in Your presence, seeking Your guidance before we make any decisions or react to the world around us.

Give us the courage to be different: When there is pressure at work, school, or home to take shortcuts or follow the crowd, give us the strength to stand firm and choose honesty and integrity.

Fill us with Your love: Teach us to love our family, friends, and neighbours selflessly. Let our words bring peace and encouragement to those who are hurting.

Grant us absolute trust: When life gets tough, when we face unexpected trials, or when the future looks uncertain, hold our hands tight. Help us to keep walking forward, knowing You are right beside us.

Thank You that You do not leave us to walk alone. Guide our steps today and every day.

Through Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
