Local disciplinary authorities in Central China's Hunan province are looking into the case of a female teacher who was taken to police station for making her student stand in punishment.

The Zhuzhou county's publicity department on Thursday confirmed that a female teacher was taken to the police station for investigation, and the police station's deputy director has been suspended, the statement said.

Further investigation is ongoing and the result will be released on Friday, it added.

The reason was that a female student in her class was late, and He asked her to stand in front of the classroom for a few minutes.

"I don't know who gave the deputy director of the police station such power? What did I do wrong? I have never slapped a child just because he or she is late. Why should I receive such a treatment since I work so diligently?" she said in the WeChat group after leaving the police station. Her claim was confirmed by her colleague.

A mom from Tucson, Arizona expressed her heartbreak as her 6-year-old son celebrated his birthday party on his own because no one showed up.

Sil Mazzini said that her son Teddy invited 32 of his classmates for his birthday party at a local pizza chain, KSAZ Fox 10 reported on Monday, Oct. 22. Mazzini originally shared her son's photo on Facebook, which has since been deleted.

She said in the interview that he celebrated his birthday late - his real birthday was Oct. 3 - as his father was working in Alaska and had not come home until the 18th.

Mazzini even made 32 goodie bags that contained the invitations, adding that she spoke with some of his classmates' parents who promised that their kids would attend the celebration.

After writing about her son's disappointment on social media, support and greetings from celebrities poured in for little Teddy.

The National Basketball Association team Phoenix Suns saw what happened on Teddy's birthday. They promised to celebrate his big day by inviting him to watch their game with the Los Angeles Lakers, as posted on the team's Twitter page.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Rising Football Club also invited the young boy to have pizza with them along with 7,000 others this Friday.

Once upon a time, a charming prince meet a beautiful princess . . . . .
PHOTO: Once upon a time, a charming prince meet a beautiful princess . . . . . then they live happily together ever after. However there are stories with other endings.

The meeting at the start could be shockingly unusual, like nobody is there at first, and still nobody after a long long wait. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, . . . years later, still nobody appears. Until at the age of 50, 55, 60 . . . years old, then realise that the wait is not worth it. We may spent the whole life waiting, but everybody is still busy meeting others who are "more important". We will never be in their list of people to meet, or in their long list of things to do. It is better to feel the full pain now and forget about it than to be painful for the whole life. Patiently waiting could be terrible as the world secretly celebrate elsewhere.

Worse, they might walk towards you, but at the last moment turn and go towards the person at the side. While you wait, they are enjoying each other company, and have forgotten about you.

"I wish you well, let the sun shine on you always. Hoping your smile continues to make someone’s day brighter!" - Bhumika on 30 March 2018

"Destiny has its way. I too shall wait and see if destiny will find its way through our parallel paths. And maybe, in a whirlwind, touch our souls, one more time in the essence of togetherness. In some life, in some form, at the most unexpected hour!" - Amreen Ahmed, Internship at Stark Communications on 29 March 2018

Whatever it is, our Lord is always waiting for us to respond to His call to go to Him, so that we can have joy and real rest now, and for eternity in heaven together with Him.

Researchers found that with a second vaccination after six months, the proportion of participants with antibody levels high enough to protect against the three influenza strains in the vaccine increased by a fifth, from 56.8 per cent to 80.4 per cent.

The May 2016 to November 2017 study by the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital won Gold in the Singapore Young Investigator Award (Clinical Research) category at the Singapore Health and Biomedical Congress yesterday.

The award was part of the Congress' Scientific Competition, which recognises research studies that have improved patient care and overall population health.

Dr Barnaby Young, the lead researcher and a consultant of infectious diseases at NCID, said the findings could help determine how often someone living in Singapore should get a flu jab. In Singapore's tropical climate, influenza causes infections year-round with outbreak timings that are difficult to predict, whereas in temperate climates, they occur only during winter, he added.

About 190 Tan Tock Seng Hospital workers to take part in TNP Big Walk

Some 190 employees from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) are looking forward to The New Paper Big Walk on Nov 18.

The hospital's human resources wellness department, which is responsible for the staff's physical and social well-being, called for registration for the Big Walk as it can reach more employees and senior staff members who do not enjoy running.

Mr Dominic Tung, assistant director of HR wellness, said: "At TTSH, we believe in work-life balance and encourage staff to engage in activities and programmes organised by the hospital which cater to their personal and physical well-being.

"The Big Walk is one such activity that allows colleagues to have fun while staying fit at the same time."

Mr Laley Senawi, a nurse clinician, will be walking with his wife and daughter, who are participating for the first time.

Mr Laley, 55, who took part in last year's Big Walk, said it will be a chance for the family to enjoy the sights of Singapore while walking on the road.

"I just want to make sure they enjoy the walk," he said.

The avid runner, who starting running more frequently three years ago to lose weight, has since lost 6kg.

ROLE MODEL
He told TNP with a laugh: "At my age, I don't have any chronic diseases, I am sort of a role model for my colleagues."

Senior medical technologist Melieve Yanson, who also participated last year, said that working in a hospital has made her more health-conscious.

Ms Yanson, 50, sets a goal of walking 10,000 steps daily.

The Big Walk's 5km route that starts from the Singapore Sports Hub is manageable for her.

She has an eight-minute walk to and from her workplace and home every day.

Ms Yanson, who hits the gym thrice a week and runs at least two half-marathons yearly, said: "Because of my job in healthcare, I need to be fit and healthy myself before I can care for others."

Healthcare personnel, nurses, and doctors are the unsung heroes not working in the glamorous world. As human beings, there are moments when bacteria, viruses, and accidents penetrate our healthy life, causing us pains and sufferings. We may blame our fate, and uncontrollably lashes out at the "injustices", but the damages to our bodies are already done. Who would understand our darkest moments, and could offer comfort to our difficult times? By the grace of God, this is the moment when our hospital's healthcare personnel takes over our broken life, offering emotional support, and stay with us as we journey along the dark tunnel of misery.

With their skillful touch, we are patiently guided through the path of recovery. Their shining care and concern provide the necessary light for us to navigate out of the dangerous microorganisms' world. Together with Mother Nature, they offer the best protection against infective agent from further multiplying within our living cells and corrupting our bodies' functioning system.

While the healthcare personnel tirelessly help us to battle our life threatening problems, they themselves are also subjected to the mercy of the invading harmful diseases. We are to remember to acknowledge their courage and bravery, as they enter into our realm which might promise no return. As they approach the day enthusiastically, bursting with activities for our well-beings, they offer themselves selflessly with little guarantee of their own safety.

We need more and more of such angels. It is with great efforts behind the scene that we are able to enjoy such warm and comforts, especially during our hour of suffering. Even in our difficult time, lets us pray also for our caregivers to find strength in their endeavour, and who maybe at this moment struggling with their never-ending tasks. May God's blessings come upon them; to keep up their goodwork, and especially, enjoy their walk through life.

Singapore hospitals are undertaking big renovation projects – Tan Tock Seng Hospital is spending more than $30 million – to meet the demands of a rapidly ageing population.
Besides being able to monitor her patients more closely, senior staff nurse Catherine Hu (above) has a computer, telephone and frequently used supplies such as alcohol swabs and manual blood pressure sets at arm’s reach at the new nurse’s station in TTSH.
