China may be infamously known as a producer of counterfeit branded goods, but one man in the Jiangsu province has now taken "copying" to whole new level.

A farmer by the name of Wang Jian, 28, used his experience as a car mechanic to build his very own Lamborghini 2007 Reventon.

Italian car maker Lamborghini reportedly made just 21 originals of that model, with only two distributed in Asia.

Mr Wang's feat is being picked up by the media worldwide, with reports saying he spent a mere S$12,000 building the sports car. Buying a brand new original would have cost him S$1.7 million, UK newspaper The Telegraph reported.

The farmer loved cars as a child and had a dream of building one for himself. Using a second-hand Nissan and Santana, he pieced together scrap metal to make a replica of the Reventon.

Mr Wang initially left his version of the Reventon, which could reach a top speed of 257km/h, in its unpolished rusted state but has recently painted it black. The original was clad in a shade of grey.

Unfortunately for Mr Wang though, he would not be able to drive his prized creation on city roads, because he does not have a valid driver’s licence. He uses it to transport crops for his farm.
