Prepare a napkin or hide from people before you watch Haihai's story if you're uncomfortable with expressing emotions publicly.

The toddler's heartbreaking yet inspiring ordeal will test your control of your tear glands.

From northern China, the two-year-old boy is an internet star of sorts. Videos of him eating deftly with chopsticks easily clock up tens of thousands of views on Kuaishou (快手 Kuài shǒu), a Chinese platform similar to Instagram.

From his favourite dumplings to noodles and pancakes, nothing seems to defeat the little Mr Miyagi.

That list includes leukaemia.

Haihai was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the cancer in January last year. At one point, his platelet count was about 1,000. Platelets help our blood to clot and a normal range is 150,000 to 450,000.

To treat Haihai, the family travelled to the capital Beijing and have spent around 700,000 yuan (S＄140,000) so far.

As if circumstances couldn't get worse, the toddler's grandmother was told she has terminal breast cancer soon after. But because of the family's financial strain, she has sacrificed her own treatment to save Haihai.

Borrowing money from relatives and friends has hurt relations, leading Haihai's parents to turn to social media to both chronicle his life and hopefully find some income.

The child has displayed a remarkable talent with chopsticks and his Kuaishou account is mainly a food channel, but it also shows him suffering needles and taking pills.

"He always behaves when he has to have his blood drawn or have an injection, but he can't help but be scared during lumbar punctures," mum said.

"After all, he's just a little boy. No matter how strong he is, such pain is hard to take."

So far, Haihai has undergone more than 30 lumbar punctures, where a needle is inserted into the spine for tests.

"The needles that pierce his little body also pierce my heart. The pain I feel is incomparable," mum added.

As expected with the internet, some sceptics have confronted the family, but the majority have been supportive. The account currently has 970,000 fans and food, clothes, toys and even money have arrived.

Mum says this has restored her faith in humanity.

Because of the way Haihai interacts with others in his videos, he has been christened "Most polite food vlogger (video logging)".

A 16-second clip uploaded three months ago has racked up a massive 19 million views.

We want more of Haihai and his chopsticks, so here's praying his hunger for food and life overcomes leukaemia!

A young boy died last Friday (Nov 9) in England from a rare cancer, hours after apologising to his mother.

"Mummy, I'm so sorry for this," Charlie Proctor was quoted as saying by his mother Amber Schofield, 24, on a Facebook post hours before his death.

She wrote that he had said it in "the most quiet, panting voice". According to Ms Schofield, he was very agitated and kept shifting positions.

"He was sorry because he wanted to move again and he felt he had to apologise for that? So now I know he also feels like he's somewhat 'in the way'," wrote Ms Schofield. "My heart broke! No child should feel the emotions Charlie is feeling. No child! No parent should watch their child slowly go."

After he died, Ms Schofield wrote in another post: "He fell asleep peacefully cuddled in my arms with daddy's arms wrapped around us. Our hearts are aching.

Charlie, five, had been battling hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer, since 2016, reported British news outlets such as the Daily Mail.

Ms Schofield and her husband Ben Proctor had been trying to raise £855,580 (S💲1.53 million) for Charlie to get an organ transplant in the United States, and had reached almost half the target amount. Among the donors was US pop star Pink, who contributed £10,000, according to British newspaper The Sun.

She wanted people to remember him for how he looked when he was healthier. Her baby bum who gave her the chance to be a mum, and showed her what love really means.

Former co-stars have already raised $1,800, with another round of fund-raising soon

Malaysian actor and comedian Zaibo, best known for portraying mee rebus seller Yusof in the 1990s sitcom Under One Roof, has stage four cancer.

Friends and former colleagues have rallied in support.

Zaibo, 62, told The Straits Times by telephone on Monday that he has oesophageal cancer, which has spread to his stomach, lungs and left rib cage.

He said he started vomiting whenever he ate solid food a few months ago and lost 10kg in eight weeks.

Zaibo, who lives in Batu Pahat in Johor, was admitted to his local hospital last month. The actor - whose real name is Zainal Ariffin Abdul Hamid - was referred to Sungai Buloh Hospital, near Kuala Lumpur, earlier this month, where he was warded for a week.

He was discharged about a week ago and is awaiting the results of a scan that will determine his treatment.

His diet is restricted to liquid food, such as high-protein milk, soup and plain porridge.

Zaibo, who also has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and gout, is optimistic.

He said: "I don't feel sick. I can walk, talk, do housework and take my kids to school."

His upbeat mood is a far cry from when he was diagnosed - he locked himself in his room for three days.

"During that time, however, I thought to myself, I know at least six secondary schoolmates who have died.

So, if it is my turn, what is unusual about it?"

He added: "There are also many cases of cancer patients who survived. So I might die or I might not."

His co-stars from Under One Roof have reached out to him. Vernetta Lopez, 45, who played Denise in the series, told ST yesterday that her heart skipped a beat when she heard the news.

The Under One Roof cast raised about $1,800 among themselves to help Zaibo with his medical expenses, she said. They are also planning another round of fund-raising via a crowdfunding platform next month.

Zaibo is grateful for the funds raised by friends, former colleagues and the public. While he has a fight ahead of him, Zaibo is taking great cheer from the fond memories he has of his Singapore acting days.

He said: "During the production of Under One Roof, I worked with lovely fellow actors and a beautiful, supportive production team."
