What are some of your doubts about God's character?
Doubts about God's character usually happen because we let the devil mess with our minds, just like what happened to Adam and Eve in Genesis.

In Chapter 3 of Bishop
Robert M. Solomon's book, In the Beginning: Tracing the Gospel Story in Genesis, the study questions help us look at our own hearts. When we look at Question 2, we can split our doubts into two clear parts:

Common Doubts About God’s Character
  • Thinking God is stingy: Feeling like God is always holding back the best things in life from us.
  • Viewing God as a "killjoy": Doubting His love and thinking He only gives us heavy rules just to restrict our freedom.
  • Distrusting His timing: Feeling like God is purposely delaying answers or doesn't care about our current struggles.
  • Doubting His fairness: Questioning why He allows bad things to happen to good people while the wicked seem to enjoy life.

Which of your doubts are rooted in Satan's twisting of the word?
Doubts Rooted in Satan’s Twisting of the Word
  • The "Did God really say?" doubt: This happens when we start questioning the absolute truth of the Bible because the devil makes us second-guess God's clear commands.
  • Exaggerating the restrictions: The devil always makes God's "cannot" look super big while making His "can" look very tiny, making us forget God's massive generosity.
  • Downplaying the consequences: Doubting that sin actually brings death or pain, because the devil whispers that "surely you will not die" and makes sin look harmless.
  • Attacking God's pure motives: Believing the lie that God is insecure or jealous of us, rather than realizing He protects us because He loves us deeply.

According to Robert M. Solomon’s In the Beginning, doubts about God's character can be overcome by
meditating on His radical abundance (socioeconomic, political, or technological state where artificial scarcity is eliminated, guaranteeing that everyone has free and equitable access to the resources needed to live and flourish) in creation, His protective mercy in judgment, and His unwavering faithfulness to covenants (a solemn, binding agreement, promise, or contract between two or more parties), as seen in the examples of Adam, Eve, and Noah. The book emphasizes anchoring trust in God’s redemptive plan, specifically the promised Messiah, which confirms His loving nature despite humanity’s fall.

Practical steps to overcome doubts by focusing on God's character, include
trusting God as a generous provider, recognizing His protection, and aligning with His original, peaceful design. For more insights on overcoming these doubts, read the full, in-depth discussion in the book.
