Reflection - Psalm 78:49-55 - His Highest Blessing

 Psalm 78:49-55

He unleashed against them his hot anger,
his wrath, indignation and hostility —
a band of destroying angels.
He prepared a path for his anger;
he did not spare them from death
but gave them over to the plague.
He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,
the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.
But he brought his people out like a flock;
he led them like sheep through the desert.
He guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but the sea engulfed their enemies.
Thus he brought them to the border of his holy land,
to the hill country his right hand had taken.
He drove out nations before them
and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;
he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.


His Highest Blessing
When John Henry Jowett was a young man, he was so intent on pursuing a law career that he didn't ask the Lord what He wanted him to do with his life. One day he met his old Sunday school teacher, who asked him what he was going to do with his many talents. Jowett replied that he was studying to be a lawyer. Disappointed, his friend said, "I've prayed for years that you would go into the ministry."

This startled the brilliant young student and set him to thinking seriously about entering the ministry. Later Jowett wrote, "I then sought God's will and reverently obeyed His call. Now, after thirty-five years in His service, I can say I've never regretted my choice."

Instead of charting your own future, seek God's direction. Because His will is based on His infinite love and wisdom, you may be sure that your highest joy and greatest fulfillment will be found in doing what He wants you to do.

God doesn't call everyone to be a minister or a missionary, but He will guide you into the place of His special choosing if you surrender to Him. He always leads you to the calling of greatest usefulness.

When you follow the Lord, life becomes a beautiful adventure. He'll always direct your steps along the paths of the highest blessing.

Psalm 78:49-55
