On Saturday, 27 August 2016, in the unfortunate rain, the summer tradition "Asakusa Samba Carnival" was held around Kaminarimon in Taito-ku, Tokyo. This time, the 35th time, about 5,000 people from 24 groups participated in the parade, and the glittering dancers performed a passionate dance.

The event where samba teams from all over the country gather to compete for dance. On the same day, dancers wearing unique costumes appeared one after another, starting with a flashy samba team by a robot restaurant. Starting from Umamichi-dori, I paraded around an 800m course with the Tokyo Sky Tree and Kaminarimon in the background. The Asakusa Samba Carnival is one of Tokyo's more lively and popular summer festivals. It attracts 500,000 vistors each year.

The festival has been held at the end of August since 1981. From 1981 to 2010, Asakusa Samba Carnival took place 30 times, that is, the 30th Asakusa Samba Carnival.

The one exception was 2011 when the festival was cancelled due to the impact of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

The 31th Asakusa Samba Carnival took place in 2012.

Subsequently the festival continued until 2019, the 38th Asakusa Samba Carnival.

In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic strike the whole world and the festival was cancelled.

At the time of writing, the 39th Asakusa Samba Carnival is planned to take place in 2021, which coincide with the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

PHOTO: The Asakusa Samba Carnival is one of Tokyo's more lively and popular summer festivals. It attracts 500,000 vistors each year.

The festival has been held at the end of August since 1981. From 1981 to 2010, Asakusa Samba Carnival took place 30 times, that is, the 30th Asakusa Samba Carnival.

The one exception was 2011 when the festival was cancelled due to the impact of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

The 31th Asakusa Samba Carnival took place in 2012.

Subsequently the festival continued until 2019, the 38th Asakusa Samba Carnival.

In 2020 the Covid-19 pandemic strike the whole world and the festival was cancelled.

At the time of writing, the 39th Asakusa Samba Carnival is planned to take place in 2021, which coincide with the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

However, there are still hope for us, the sinners. Any sin that we are still, by grace, able to authentically, humbly confess and repent from. That sin does not lead to death. (1 John 5:16–17).

We are warned against misunderstanding that in a perfectionistic way as though Christians don’t sin anymore. “If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us” (1 John 1:8–10). There’s the reality that we do in fact as Christians commit sins and can find forgiveness as we confess them. If we confess our sin, hate it, turn from it, and fight against it, we will be forgiven. [3]
