Nelly remains Dickens's secret mistress until his death in 1870. She marries Oxford graduate George Wharton Robinson, twelve years her junior. The couple have a son and run a boys' school at Margate. While knowing that she knew Charles Dickens as a child, George does not suspect that she was his mistress. Only the Reverend Benham knows her secret. As she watches her son perform in a school play, she remembers the epilogue lines she spoke on stage in The Frozen Deep for Dickens:

On a snowy night, a mysterious stranger, his face swathed in bandages and his eyes obscured by dark goggles, takes a room at The Lion's Head Inn in the English village of Iping in Sussex. The man demands that he be left alone.

Later, the innkeeper, Mr. Hall (Forrester Harvey) is sent by his wife (Una O'Connor) to evict the stranger after he makes a huge mess in his room while doing research and falls behind on his rent. Angered, the stranger throws Mr. Hall down the stairs. Confronted by a policeman and some local villagers, he removes his bandages and goggles, revealing that he is invisible. Laughing maniacally, he takes off his clothes, making himself completely undetectable, and drives off his tormenters before fleeing into the countryside. [2]

The wealthy lawyer Dick Russell (John Howard) funds the dotty old inventor Professor Gibbs (John Barrymore) to create an invisibility device. The first test subject for this machine is Kitty Carroll (Virginia Bruce), a department store model who had been fired from her previous job. The machine proves quite successful, and Kitty uses her invisible state to pay back her sadistic former boss, Mr. Growley (Charles Lane). [3]

While the Professor and the invisible Kitty are off visiting the lodge of the millionaire Russell, the gangster Blackie Cole (Oscar Homolka) sends in his gang of moronic thugs (including Shemp Howard) to steal the device. With the machine back at their hideout, however, they cannot get it to work. By now Kitty has returned to visibility, and the thugs are sent in to kidnap her and Gibbs. However, she has learned that some alcohol will restore her to invisibility, and uses this to defeat the gang (with help from Russell).

At the end of the film it is revealed she has married and become a mother. To top it off, she and the professor learn that her treatment has apparently become hereditary—as her infant son vanishes upon being rubbed with an alcohol-based lotion. [3]

Darian Fawkes is a petty thief and conman who is bailed out of jail by his brother in return for undergoing an experiment that implants a "quicksilver" gland in his head that allows him to turn invisible. When his brother is killed, he ends up working for a top-secret government organization (disguised as the Department of Fish & Game) in return for a counter-agent which keeps the gland from driving him insane. Nick Halloway (Chevy Chase) is a stock analyst who spends most of his life avoiding responsibility and connections with other people. At his favorite bar, the Academy Club, his friend George Talbot (Michael McKean) introduces him to Alice Monroe (Daryl Hannah), a TV documentary producer. Sharing an instant attraction, Nick and Alice make out in the ladies' room and set a lunch date for Friday.

The following morning, a hungover Nick attends a shareholders' meeting at Magnascopic Laboratories. Unable to endure the droning presentation by Dr. Bernard Wachs (Jim Norton), Nick leaves the room for a nap. A lab technician (Aaron Lustig) accidentally spills his mug of coffee onto a computer console, causing a meltdown, and the entire building is evacuated. Nick goes to San Francisco and stays in George's remote beach house. George arrives with his wife Ellen (Patricia Heaton), Alice, and another friend, to spend the weekend. Nick phones Alice and tells her to meet him nearby. He reveals his condition to Alice, and she promptly faints. When she revives, Alice decides to stay with Nick and help him. They travel to Mexico, where Nick can start a new life. To make money, he trades stocks using Alice as a proxy. Jenkins tracks them down, and shoots Nick with a tranquillizer gun. Nick falls into a river, revives and escapes. He makes his way to a video store, where he records his memoirs on video tape, including an ultimatum for Jenkins: exchange Alice for the tape, or Nick will give it to the CIA and the press. Jenkins agrees to the exchange.

At the arranged time for the exchange, Jenkins puts Alice into a cab and orders his men to surround the phone booth where he thinks Nick is. The man in the phone booth turns out to be George, who is dressed in Nick's concealing clothing. Nick is disguised as the cab driver; he takes Alice away, pursued by Jenkins. They continue the chase on foot into a building still under construction, in the course of which Nick gets covered with concrete dust, outlining his silhouette. At the top, by taking off his jacket (which has the largest amount of dust on it), Nick tricks Jenkins into thinking that he has become desperate enough to commit suicide. Nick holds the jacket out to his side and pretends to begin to fall. Jenkins lunges at the jacket to try to save him, but ends up plunging off the building to his death.

Believing Nick to be dead, Singleton releases Alice. Nick reunites with Alice and they leave for Switzerland. The film ends with shots of Nick's apparently empty clothing skiing down a mountainside towards their chalet, where a pregnant Alice greets him with a hot drink and a kiss. [5]

Invisible Woman (Susan Richards) is the wife of Mr. Fantastic and a member of the Fantastic Four.

Sue, a scientist, leads Victor Von Doom's chief researcher of his Department of Genetic Research. She dated Victor Von Doom which led her into his proposal to go with Reed Richards in space to concentrate on Cosmic Radiation. It was noted that Richards and Storm had a previous romantic relationship through Richards' presentation. [6]

Once the project was agreed; Herself, Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Victor and Susan's younger brother, Johnny Storm; went up in a space shuttle to research into Cosmic Radiation. However with the arrival of the cosmic storm, it changed hers and the other four member's genes. In Sue's case, she was granted to have the ability to manipulate light (allowing her to disappear and generate semi-visible force fields). Prior to the storms arrival Victor proposes to her; however she turns him down because of an interruption of the Cosmic Storm.

She first discovered her powers after the dramatic events which occurred; she was having a intimate conversation with Richards about their past, it was there she portrayed her invisibility when she became angry with Richards of his opinion. [6]

Susan first conveyed her powers during the events that occurred on the bridge in Manhattan. The attempt to get around the police suffered a minor setback because she couldn't render her clothes invisible, leading her having to strip down naked while invisible in front of several people. [6]

When she was halfway there, in her underwear of course, she embarrassingly turned visible at a bad time and was seen half-naked in public. It was when she turned invisible that she immediately took off all her clothes (much to her brother's disturbance, saying he needed therapy) and ran back to the van while Johnny collected her discarded clothes. She was able to stop the fire from expanding after hitting a Gas Can; by using her forcefields to reduce the fire. However, as a minor result, Susan had a nose bleed, and also making Sue incredible weak. Later after the incident she is shown without her jacket and is having her blood pressure checked, though she says she is fine, as she pulls down her button shirt sleeve and puts on her jacket. [6]

From there onwards, the Fantastic Four was formed after their glorious rescue; however, Richards researched into the adaptions in the genes and how to change the genes back to the normal human genetics. It was discovered that she could channel her powers through her emotions. Unlike in other media, Sue was not able to render her normal clothes invisible (her radiated spacesuit can become invisible with her, though).

Later when Sue is walking down the street, she sees a magazine with her on it, and many more. She tries to walk away but is surrounded by countless fans wanting pictures and autographs, so Sue runs away. But not being able to run away from them when she gets to a corner, in a fit of rage she takes off her coat leaving her button shirt as she turns invisible. When the crown gets to the corner they see a pile of clothes on the ground, meaning that Sue went invisible.

Although her powers are influenced by her emotions, she manages to control her abilities during the team's climactic battle with Victor. Sue accepted Richards' proposal of marriage in the closing scene after having celebrated their victory.  [6]

"At that time, the Lord will take away the finery of the ankle bracelets, headbands, crescents, pendants, bracelets, veils, headdresses, armlets, sashes, perfume boxes, charms, signet rings, nose rings, fine robes, capes, purses, mirrors, linen garments, tiaras, and veils." (Isaiah 3:18-23). The women were told not to wear extravagantly but simply and adequately.
