A picture of a three-year-old boy named Aylan Kurdi and his five-year-old brother, Galip, were photographed face down ashore on a Turkish beach on Wednesday (Sep 2).

The heart-rending pictures of their lifeless bodies in the surf at one of Turkey's main tourist resorts had inspired artists from all around the world to draw cartoons of the children. Their deaths bring to light the growing fears and dangers of Europe's refugee crisis.



The images of a tiny child lying face down in the surf at one of Turkey's main tourist resorts has once more put a human face on the dangers faced by tens of thousands of desperate people who risk life and limb to seek a new life in Europe.

Entertainment sites Buzzfeed and Bored Panda have featured some of these illustrations as a tribute to the dead toddlers.

According to media reports, pictures of the cartoons were being shared on social media under the hashtags #KiyiyaVuranInsanlik and #HumanityWashedAshore.

Wearing a red T-shirt and blue shorts when he was found dead, Aylan is believed to be one of least 12 Syrians who died when their boats sank trying to reach Greece. Aylan and Galip's family were reported attempting to leave Syria and escaping to Canada.

The children's father, Abdullah Kurdi, collapsed in tears after emerging from a morgue in the city of Mugla near Bodrum in Turkey when he identified their bodies, according to Thomson Reuters.

Mr Kurdi's wife, Rehan, 35, also perished along with their two sons.

"I was holding my wife's hand. My children slipped away from my hands. We tried to hold on to the boat," he said

in the statement. "Everyone was screaming in pitch darkness. I couldn't make my voice heard to my wife and kids."
