The news channel's presenter Julia Chatterley brought up the viral music video during an interview on a CNN live show aired on May 27 with Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan as an example of how Singapore was using pop songs to encourage its citizens to get vaccinated.

She said that she enjoyed watching the video and "absolutely loved it".

In response, a smiling Dr Balakrishnan responded: "It is corny but effective. It certainly got the attention of people and got the message out there."

He later added: "It is a way of getting people's attention, explaining it in a humorous way. And yet, a very serious message. That this is lifesaving, and this is the way we need to get out of this box that Covid-19 has trapped us in for the last 1½ years."

Dr Balakrishnan shared the interview in a Facebook post on Monday, saying he had discussed Singapore's Covid-19 strategy, prospects for international travel and global developments in the CNN interview.

Titled Get Your shot, Steady Pom Pi Pi, the video also stars fellow Phua Chu Kang star Rosie, who was played by comedienne and host Irene Ang in the popular television sitcom.

The duo sing a catchy rap in their inimitable Singlish style, encouraging Singaporeans to "faster go and vaccinate", while addressing common concerns like whether the vaccine is safe for those with common ailments.

Ms Ang had also taken to Instagram to share her reaction on the international coverage the video had received.

"It is so surreal seeing myself and Gurmit on CNN reports, among many international media," she said.

As of today, the video has garnered over 1.4 million views on YouTube.

Singapore's chendol? Excuse me?

Malaysians are bewildered by CNN's claim that the sweet treat belongs to their neighbours when it made the publication's list of 50 of the world's best desserts.

According to the CNN travel writer Jen Rose Smith, Singaporeans love to indulge in a bowl of chendol on sweltering afternoons.

Who wouldn't?

Imagine slurping a bowl of shaved ice topped with smokey gula melaka, fresh coconut milk, and slippery strips of pandan jelly.

The icy treat is enjoyed by many in Southeast Asia, but the place of origin of the dessert has left a bitter taste in Malaysian foodies' mouths.

Many took to social media to express their anger.

One tweeted, "CNN, chendol is either Malaysian or Indonesian but it definitely isn't Singaporean," and suggested that the writer be "forbidden from eating chendol."

"Singaporeans flock to Melaka for food - including chendol - every weekend," said another Twitter user.

Their sentiments were echoed by their fellow countryman, "CNN, please do not #messwithourchendol."

"We both have a right to it. But who makes better chendol. Go on. I dare you!"

And some Singaporeans are quick to acknowledge that chendol is not unique to Singapore.

"Even if I'm the most kiasu patriotic Singaporean, I would still have the morals and dignity to not claim chendol as ours," tweeted Giri Dev Nair.

And while others are questioning the dessert's origin, Indonesians are "letting it slide" since they have many other yummy treats.

No matter where it comes from, we'd probably all agree that chendol is delicious.
