Queues formed at banks and cash deposit machines across Singapore yesterday, with people hoping for better fortune in the new year. Depositing money on Li Chun (立春 Lì chūn) or Farmers' Day (農民節 Nóng mín jié), is believed to grow one's wealth and ensure good luck.

Li Chun falls between Feb 4 and 18 and marks the start of spring in the Chinese calendar.
