The various bright colourful flowers and the sweet scent of blossoms permeate the air in both the heart of the city and quietest of rural villages, making spring the best time to visit South Korea.

Canola flowers along the world's No. 1 Slow Road, Cheongsando Island
Located about 19km south of Wando, Jeollanam-do in the Dadohaehaesang National Park area is Cheongsando Island, which was designated as the first Asian "Slow City" in 2007 and is home to the world's first "Slow Road".

With the arrival of spring, yellow canola flowers, called yuchae in Korean, grow abundantly on the island and the fragrance fills the air, making the island an ideal springtime film location for movies, dramas and TV commercials.

Pass through a cherry blossom tunnel at Jinhae's Yeojwacheon Stream
Jinhae district in Changwon City comes alive in spring, when Jinhae Gunhangje Festival takes place and about 360,000 cherry trees begin to bloom.

The entire city is considered one of the top cherry blossom destinations, and the most popular flower viewing areas are Anmingogae Hill, Jehwangsan Park and Yeojwacheon Stream.

In particular, a 1.5km-long section of Yeojwacheon Stream is lined with cherry blossoms, creating a tunnel of white petals.

A romantic walk along the Simni Cherry Blossom Road
The Simni Cherry Blossom Road is a 6km road that stretches from Hwagae Market to Ssanggyesa Temple in Hadong-gun county, Gyeongsangnam-do province.

It is often called the "wedding path" because it is said that couples who walk along the road on a spring day when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom will fall deeply in love with each other.

In addition, the annual Hwagae Cherry Blossoms Festival takes place around this time, offering more attractions for people walking the path connecting Hwagae Market and Ssanggyesa Temple.

A film site of the K-drama
All In, Seopjikoji on Jeju Island
As South Korea's southernmost province, Jeju Island is the first to see the blossoming of spring flowers.

Yellow canola flowers spring up far and wide on the island, creating picture-perfect scenery in places like the famous filming location Seopjikoji for the 2003 TV series All In.

Visitors will be pleased to find uniquely shaped sculptures set in fields of canola flowers, and some tourist sites offer pony rides for families with children.

Yeongchwisan Mountain (Yeosu) blossoming with azaleas
Famous for the surrounding blue sea and beautiful islands, Yeosu is another popular destination for viewing spring flowers.

Starting in April, pink azaleas colour the mountains.

The Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival is held annually in early April to celebrate the arrival of spring.

“Dahlia Dreams” Floral Display
During 2016 Lunar New Year, Gardens by the Bay ushers in the Year of the Monkey with a floral display that draw inspiration from the Chinese classical tale “Journey to the West” (西游记 Xī yóu jì).

Those who had taken a trip down to the Flower Dome were awed by the stunning landscape of dahlias, begonias and other blooms against the backdrop of a lofty seven-metre-tall mountain. Monkey-shaped topiaries could be seen as visitors strolled through the cavern with unexpected surprises and appreciated the various elements of Chinese arts and culture infuse in this floral display.


Spring is magical with flowers.
PHOTO: Spring is magical with flowers. The trees blossom and wild flowers cascade down foothills.  Personal gardens and small farms are inspired by the new warmth.  After a long snowy Winter, cherry trees blossom, bugs stretch their wings and bees get to work.
Cherry Blossoms and Dahlia Dreams leggings carry that same magic and they are sprinkled with the very plants that are part of our little mountain lives.  The flowers and orchards we frolic in.  The places we grew up and now watch our kids grow and learn.  Wearing them magically makes you twirl in circles in the grass and find animals in the clouds.

“Dahlia Dreams” was also the first in a series of music-themed floral displays at Gardens by the Bay that year. The floral displays come to life with the energetic beats of Taiko drums, the retro tunes of the jukebox, and the pulsating rhythm of tribal dance.


Take in the beautiful sights while strolling through the Chinese garden inspired landscape, complete with a three-tier pagoda, a pavilion, moon gates, and even intricate sculptures of adorable Zodiac animals to welcome the lunar new year.

“Dahlia Dreams”  Garden Trail
As part of the “Dahlia Dreams” floral display, guests could choose to embark on a Journey to the West with the “Dahlia Dreams” Garden Trail. Visitors could explore the “Flowers and Fruit Mountain” where the legendary Monkey King was born and enter the “Water Curtain Cave” as described in the novel. Guests could also pick up interesting information about the colourful blooms of dahlias and begonias during the Garden Trail.

The display was made up of a mixture of dahlias, begonias, chrysanthemum and other flowers. Admission charge to the conservatories applies. Guided tours are free, but admission charge to Flower Dome applies.

Ask Me! – “Dahlia Dreams” Floral Display
Those who prefered a guided tour through the “Dahlia Dreams” Floral Display could opt to do so on selected dates.

Display Interpreters guided visitors through the “Flowers and Fruit Mountain” and shared fascinating information about the colourful blooms of dahlias and begonias.

To participate, visitors simply gathered at the “Ask Me!” poster near the Flower Field. Tours began when a group of five or more visitors were assembled.

Be greeted by the auspicious, gilded hues of yellow, orange and red Dahlias (大丽花 Dà lì huā) and Begonias (秋海棠 Qiū hǎi táng) as you step into the crisp climate of the Flower Dome complete with chickens to welcome the Year of the Rooster.
