SINGAPORE - Business is booming for a wonton mee stall which was attacked by a drunkard, two days after the incident.

The stall at North Bridge Road Food Centre made the news after an angry customer smashed the stall front with a beer bottle on Monday (Oct 31) night.

The customer became annoyed after waiting for 30 minutes for his wonton mee, and smashed the glass display at the front of the stall with a beer bottle, causing it to shatter.

The hawker at a soya bean stall nearby tried to mediate, but the man punched her and hit her after she fell to the ground.

A 54-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case, police said.

On Wednesday night, the wonton mee stall reopened to a long queue, Shin Min Daily News reported. Loyal customers of the stall had turned up to support the stallholders.

Taxi driver Mr Goh, 55, said he was there to lend his support.

"The hawker usually warns customers that the wait can be as long as half an hour; his behaviour is unacceptable, " Mr Goh told the Chinese evening daily. "Good food is worth waiting for. I hope they can recover from this and continue operating."

Another customer, Mr Lee, 44, said that the stall's wonton mee brings back memories of his childhood.

"I'm willing to wait 30 minutes, we all support the stallholder," he said.

The stallholder selling soya bean milk said that she will also support her friend, the wonton mee seller.

"My ear still hurts after the beating, but I will definitely help her," she told Shin Min.

When the man struck an aggressive pose, she tried to mediate but became the target of his wrath.
