In the world of bodyhair removal, you’re either a shaver, a waxer, or a plucker.
Thanks to technology, those with cash to spare often rely on laser treatments, which began gaining traction in the beauty market some 10 years ago.
I (a cash-careful shaver) have never been sold on the idea of laser hair removal – until now.
Tempted after reading about the next wave of laser hair-removal machines, I tried an underarm hair-removal treatment at a renowned dermatologist’s clinic – one of two in Singapore that use new machines from Luminess, the world’s largest medical-laser company.

The treatment, on the new LightSheer Duet, is a working executive’s dream.
It delivered on its promise of being painless – and quick.
Unlike most other laser treatments, no numbing gel was required in this one.
The machine uses a vacuum to gently pull and stretch the skin before applying the laser energy.
This action pulls the hair follicle to the surface, allowing for better and smoother extraction.
Thanks to this technique, the time for the treatment is reduced – by up to 75 per cent – compared to other laser treatments.

Hair removal from large areas such as the full legs or back takes around 20 minutes. My treatment took five.
LightSheer Duet treatments are also available for hair removal from the face, and bikini and back areas.
Prices start from $680 per session for the underarms. Packages start at about $2,700 for six treatments.
Despite the hefty price tag, this is something you can pencil in easily during a lunch hour (and you’ll still have time for a proper lunch).
PHOTO: Give your skin enough moisture
Drink plenty of water. If the kin and hair are getting enough moisture there is much less chance of getting complication and you feel a lot less uncomfortable when you removed the hair. It is said that 6-8 glasses of water a day is absolutely perfect amount. Also, use a good moisturizing lotion to the skin itself.
PHOTO: Tea Tree wax is gentle on the skin and helps to prevent ingrown hairs. Great for stubborn, tougher hairs with less reaction after waxing.
The Australian Aborigines were the first to unearth the benefits of Tea Tree long ago when they began to harvest the leaves for their medicinal use. Tea Tree oil products are now increasingly sought after as extensive scientific studies over recent years have shown it to be effective against bacterial and other microbial organisms.
There is no downtime, though you are advised not to go into the sun for a day after the treatment. And depending on your skin sensitivity, you may experience some minor discomfort, I was warned.
There was none for me, despite the fact that I consider my skin to be on the sensitive side.
PHOTO: Waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair removal, which removes hair from the root. New hair will not fully grow back in the waxed area for four to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed.
Although I was told that one usually doesn’t see results until a second session is completed, the regrowth, for me (and this varies from person to person), was thinner and slower than before, after just one session.
PHOTO: Laser Hair Removal Patients Are Getting Younger
Unwanted body hair is something that haunts most individuals, especially those in their teen years. Although many teenagers shave and wax those bothersome hairs, many are interested in more long-lasting results. An increasingly popular solution is laser hair removal – a non-invasive technique to provide patients with smooth results. However, younger patients who are still going through puberty may not be ideal candidates for this procedure.
The laser energy used for hair removal targets hair that is in the growing process, which means that it can not affect the areas in which hair has yet to start growing. This can produce less than satisfactory results as the new hair begins to emerge. In addition, patients who have not passed the puberty stage may require many more sessions than those who have reached their full hair growth. Along with teenagers, many in the 18 to 29 year old age group are increasingly opting to undergo laser hair removal, according to a recent article. Because of the current economic state, many individuals are looking to less costly and minimally invasive treatments for enhancement and/or rejuvenation.

Roll-On Waxing systems are the most reliable method of applying wax. This break-through method of waxing is scientifically proven to be more hygienic as the wax is not exposed to airborne dust, bacteria and debris.
So, in the world of hair removal, I remain a shaver. But I am now a more infrequent one.
Now, that’s a result.

PHOTO: Wax Love Got to Do With It, Toe Waxing
Toe waxing can be a great add-on for pedicures. It gives the client that little extra pampering so they know their entire foot will be smooth and clean for uninhibited bare feet flashing.
A burden on your skin, but on clients it’s a win — unwanted hair is an oft-overlooked opportunity for nail techs to rip into new profits and broaden their salon skill set.
PHOTO: Five steps on how to do a flawless toe waxing.
1. Prep toes with your favorite cleanser to remove any lotion or oils from the toes and wipe them dry.
2. If toe hair is particularly long, trim with brow scissors, being sure not to trim too short. You want the wax to adhere to the hair not the skin.
3. Apply wax to one toe at a time in the direction of the hair growth. Then apply the wax strip to the wax.
4. At this point, use the “pat and pull” method. Just press for a few seconds and then pull. Continue to do this until the hair is completely removed. Grohowski prefers the “pat and pull” method because rubbing can cause the wax to become imbedded in the cracks of the toe, making it difficult to remove even when you pull the toe taut.
5. After removing hair from all the toes, apply a soothing cream.
PHOTO: The whole waxing procedure was done really fast. Apply the wax, it semi-hardens within seconds and peel out. There go all the unsightly leg hairs and now clean, hairless pair of legs.
PHOTO: Shaving and waxing our bikini line is not fun and it’s bad for the skin. Bikini laser hair removal is the way to go but it’s important to keep in mind that not all lasers are the same.
Bikini laser hair removal for women of skin tones is not to be confused with electrolysis or IPL (intense pulse light) treatments that are not safe for all skin types and do not provide the permanent bikini hair removal. The bikini area is one of the most sensitive skin surfaces on the body and should only be trusted to a medical clinic.
PHOTO: Why Are So Many Women Showing Off Their Privates? (from: the NSFW nakedness is here)
The bikini line industry has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few years. There's an increasing number of bizarre and cringe-inducing products out there designed to make your area more "fun" and attention-grabbing. Never before have so many women wanted to show their private parts to strangers. Definitely for vulva pride, but it's a little odd that most of the crotches we see are uniformly bare or sparkly ones. Having fun with your hair — all your hair — is to be encouraged, but I'm not convinced that's what's actually happening.
Instead, it seems like the obsession with "perfecting" the area just reduces us to one part instead of celebrating our beauty as whole people.
PHOTO: Full Brazilian or the Sphinx—a full waxing. No hair at all.
The Sphinx variety involves the complete removal of all hair in the pelvic region. While the practice is mainly associated with women, men at times also remove pubic hair.
