The 55,000-odd spectators also, for the first time, sang songs in sign language at the parade, to symbolise the country's aspiration to be an inclusive society.

The National Day Parade may be over, but that doesn't mean that netizens have stopped talking about it.

It seems that one participant caught the eye of several Singaporeans, including blogger Alvinology (https://alvinology.com/2016/08/09/neoh-yew-kim-the-sign-language-girl-who-stole-everyones-heart-at-ndp-2016/), who published a blog post on Ms Neoh Yew Kim, a 22-year-old sign language instructor.

Using sign language, Ms Neoh led 150 special needs participants and the 55,000-strong crowd at the Sports Hub in a mass song-signing activity on Tuesday (9 August 2016).

Dressed in a white dress with her hair pulled back neatly, Ms Neoh's elegance and sweet smile captured the hearts of many who were watching the performance.

An instructional video uploaded on YouTube featuring Neoh song-signing to Home and Count on Me, drew positive comments. One netizen commented that Ms Neoh was "pretty".

There is even a forum thread discussing Ms Neoh's good looks on Hardware Zone (http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drink-man-woman-16/gvgt-yew-kim-mei-mei-quite-cute-even-though-wear-braces-5428478.html).

Neoh, who wears a hearing aid and cochlear implant, told The Straits Times through a sign language interpreter that song-signing enables those who can't hear to "enter the world of music and allows the able-bodied to join in with us in that moment".

The inspiring performer also performed at the opening ceremony of the 8th ASEAN Para Games in Singapore last year.

Humans of Singapore (http://humansofsg.com/page/20), a popular blog showcasing everyday Singaporeans on the street, had also featured Neoh previously.

In a September 2014 post, the blog published a photo of a cheerful Neoh posing candidly at Singapore Polytechnic.

She told the photographer that she suffered from hearing loss when she was just six months old, and attended school with other hearing impaired students as a child. However, when it was time to enter secondary school, her disability became clear and began to overwhelm her.

The struggle to cope hit hard, and she wanted to blame someone for the problems she had at school.

She said in the Humans of Singapore post: "My parents weren't around because they're divorced and live separately, so I couldn't blame them. But I live with my sister and grandmother, and my sister has the same problem, so I became angry and started blaming her instead - I thought that maybe she bit me and I had the same problem!"

Eventually, Neoh began to overcome the obstacles with the help of friends, and by brushing up on her lip-reading skills.

Imperfection, she told Humans of Singapore, does not mean a person is worth less than others.

"Sometimes your imperfection is what makes you resilient, what makes you stronger. So you shouldn't run from it, you should embrace it and make it your own," she was quoted as saying.

SINGAPORE - This year's National Day Parade returns to the National Stadium after a decade, and a crowd of over 50,000 people is expected to turn up to celebrate SG51 at the new venue on 9 Aug 2016.

While there's much to look forward to at the parade, here are some tips for you to survive the new venue if you're going this year.

1. Get there early
It's free seating. So if you want a good spot, make sure you arrive early. There will be security screenings to clear, so be prepared for queues.

If you bag a good seat, you stand to get a great view of the "futuristic" 3-D projections and aerial performers suspended from the roof of the stadium. This also creates a perfect photo-taking opportunity. You may even be close enough to wave to the President when he arrives.

2. Pack light
Don't bring bulky bags, this will help at the security checks.

Food and drinks are allowed, but don't pack messy food items. There are stalls selling some simple food inside the stadium, so you can buy some in a pinch. However, do note that these stalls close at around 6.30pm.

Unlike previous years, the goodie bag this year does not contain bread or buns, so bring some of your own if you want.

Selfie sticks are not allowed in the National Stadium.

And if you are thinking of what outfit to put on that day, dress comfortably in red and white!

3. Know which zone you're assigned to
The National Stadium will be divided into four sectors, denoted by colours on your ticket. Your assigned gate will also be indicated on your ticket.

It is important that you know which sector you're assigned to and head to the correct exit at Stadium MRT station.

There will be volunteers at the station helping to direct people to the correct exit. Approach them if you're unsure.

4. Help for the elderly or those with disabilities
Spectators in the company of senior citizens and people with disabilities can look for volunteers or staff for help.

These people will also be on the lookout for those needing help.

As there are plenty of stairs in the stadium, these assistants will direct you to lifts or alternative entrances.

5. Bring earplugs
You would probably know about the indoor fireworks by now. As magnificent as they may be, they can be a tad loud for some, so bring some earplugs if you have sensitive hearing or if you're taking your little tyke along.

6. When to catch the fireworks
The fireworks inside the National Stadium begin around 8pm, so don't leave for a toilet break at that time!

For those who weren't lucky enough to score tickets to the parade, but want to watch the fireworks outside, check out these places, http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/best-places-snap-ndp-fireworks.

7. Be prepared for massive crowds after the show
Expect massive crowds to flock towards Stadium MRT station after the show as parade-goers exit the venue.

Be patient and queue in an orderly fashion.

You can make your way out of the stadium and head to Kallang Wave mall, where you can grab a bite till the crowds clear. But be warned, the mall will be pretty packed too.

Alternatively, you can take a walk to Kallang MRT station, which the Sports Hub describes as being 600m away under a covered path. Either way, we hope you make your way home safely.

Have fun and enjoy the show!

Happy National Day!

A girl enjoying the National Day Parade at the Padang on Sunday. She was among some 1.7 million people who participated in the jubilee celebrations over the past four days, said Education Minister Heng Swee Keat yesterday. A factor that contributed to the "huge turnout" was the extra public holiday on Friday, he added.

Singa the courtesy lion resigned officially from his duties on 2013? Not really, at least not totally. After the retirement still attended many state functions including National Birthday. Quietly overseeing many activities especially those that took place in our National Parks.

We live in difficult times. The Lord could return at any time. He calls us to live godly lives and in every way, to return to Him with all our hearts.

Spend some time asking Him to search your hearts and confess any sin He points out. Cling to Him because He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving-kindness and relenting from evil
(Joel 2:12-13). - Dr. Stacy Rinehart
