Nothing is more empowering than being healthy, strong, and naked.

When was the last time you looked at your body in all its naked glory? I mean really looked at it. No squeaming at chubby thighs or grimacing at lanky arms. Just looking at, understanding, and accepting your body in all its perfectly imperfect brilliance?

I had the opportunity to model for an art nude yoga photo shoot last year which aimed to celebrate the beauty and diversity of every body. While it was the most empowering and liberating experience of my life, I have always been too afraid to share the magic of nakedness with anyone. Until now.

My relationship with my body has been a turbulent one. At 15 I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa. At 19 I had a near-death experience, weighing 25kg (just over 55 pounds). Five years (and virtually double my bodyweight) later and I have transformed those struggles into strengths.

Physically, I am a healthy woman who can happily do Sun Salutations all day and has embraced Olympic Weightlifting to show the capabilities of the human body. Mentally, I can now use my own experience to help other people with body battles to go on to lead wholehearted lives through my research into the role of sport and exercise in post-traumatic growth (yes, you can grow from trauma rather than remain devastated by it!).

And emotionally, I'm at peace with my body and with myself.

Healing, transformation, and growth take time. It's taken me years of self-awareness, self-discipline, self-acceptance, and self-love to become strong, healthy, and courageous enough to bare all and let myself be deeply seen.

But it's 100% worth it. To be naked and vulnerable means you are alive.

So, If you want to stop beating yourself up every time you look in the mirror, learn to love the body you have been blessed with, and give a huge middle finger to every fashion show, magazine, and reality TV show that says you need to look a certain way, daily naked time should be at the top of your to-do list. Why?

1. To own your story

Your body tells your story. When you get to know your body, you get to own your story. And when you own your story, you get to write the ending.

2. To embrace your completeness

You will never be more than when you are naked. The word "naked" comes from the Old English "nacod," meaning "bare." And the word "bare" comes from the Lithuanian word "basas," meaning "complete in itself."

That encapsulates the power of being naked: it makes you see that you are complete, you are good enough, and you have the power within you to do and be all that you want.

3. To experience vulnerability

According to Brene Brown’s research (and the inspiration behind this post), being naked is the epitome of how vulnerability feels. Being naked is about being vulnerable. And being vulnerable is about having the courage to dare greatly, to let yourself be deeply seen, and to live your life from your heart.

4. To show the world that you are uniquely beautiful

Stripping bare and making peace with your body is one way of giving a huge middle finger to a world that says you need to look or act a certain way. By declothing you are giving a metaphorical punch in the face to a society that promotes a one dimensional standard of beauty. You are beautiful. Full stop.

5. To face your fears and liberate yourself

We spend so much money on clothes, but some of the best moments in life are enjoyed without them. It is in these moments we face our fears and can free ourselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

By Grace Zhao, Jun 3, 2012:
The happiest times within my life are those periods that I am been totally single. The definition of "totally single" is that you do not have someone that you are interested in in your heart.

Within those time, you are so free that you do nothing but enjoy yourself. However, those periods would never last for long, because soon enough you will meet someone and get interested in. Why? Because we are human. And being totally single means your heart is available.

Admit it, when a person's heart is available, it means that it is always ready for a new relationship, and it would be always seeking no matter whether you want it or not.

So that the notion that no love equal to no worry is wrong. No love means that you will run into a new situation that totally unpredictable.....no love means that you may have to face the big trouble later in the future.....

Personally I have reached both the highest point of happiness and sadness while being in love ... Maybe its because of release of some hormones within the body..

Its because the emotional bonding that you develop with that person that makes you forget all your worries for some time.

At the same time, on the contrary when you realize the very same person cannot be with you anymore, it shatters one's dreams and brings them to the peak of sadness...

By Adriaan Braam, May 28, 2012:
The lowest point of sadness: It is heaven on earth when things turns out well. But if something steps in the way, or does not work out, it can feel like hell.

However, we should not love someone in order for us to become happy. The essence of love is by loving others more than oneself, wishing to be one with them, and devoting oneself to their happiness.

Once they are happy we can feel their happiness as ours.

By Debra Smith, May 22, 2012:
It seems to me that I am truly happiest when I have regained what I had lost or gained something I never fully believed that I could obtain. For example; I feel pretty happy just being alive because it was seriously threatened a while ago.

I feel happy when I can walk without a walker - that would not have pleased me 6 months ago.

I also remember being incomparably happy when I got my scholarship for my MA (maybe because no one else in my family had ever had the opportunity to get a degree.)

By Robert Winner, May 20, 2012:
The statement "while being in love" should be changed to "Knowing that you are loved". Have you ever read the story of the ten cow wife? On a small island a plain woman was wooed by a farmer who promised the father 10 cows for the hand of his daughter. A dowry size that is unheard of.

His display for the hand of the daughter transformed her in the minds of all the island and made her feel so good she literally transformed into the person she was perceived to be by all others.

When I come home from a hard day, the love of the "home" and all who reside there lifts me up and provides me with happiness I cannot find anywhere else.

Many people believe that love gives you most happiness you can ever get in your life.

But you will never be calm and free from worries if you're in love.

Workplace Success: Be purpose-driven rather than performance-driven

WE SPEND so many hours working that it makes perfect sense to try to be happy, but moving to a state of cheerfulness involves some homework.

One road map came to me recently in the form of a book on the five steps to becoming a happy, fulfilled and successful student. While The Happy Student is aimed at students, it does have tips that apply to all, young or old.

Author Daniel Wong says you must run your own race and not the one other people think you should run. To be happy, you must become purpose-driven rather than performance-driven.

Happiness is a choice. Like any habit, the more you practice the more natural it will become. Take action and welcome more happiness into your life today.

His 30 ways to stay motivated include smiling when you wake up, doing something social every day, exercising, sleeping well and resolving relationship issues right now.

What these tips tell you is that you are in control of your own happiness.

Happiness at work does not mean getting a bigger pay cheque or getting your boss to stop calling you while you are on a holiday.

It does mean making a conscious decision to be happy and avoiding negative conversations and unhappy people as far as possible.

'Happiness is a mental state and the good news is that in whatever work situation, we can choose the state of mind to have,' says Mr Tan Swee Heng, a director for leadership and talent development at LZ Leadership International.

'The key is to choose to be happy with our work, until it becomes our mental habit... This is to prevent ourselves from being affected by adverse work situations or even by some of the unhappy talk or colleagues in the workplace.'

Dr Srikumar Rao, author of Happiness At Work, says the biggest obstacle to workplace happiness is believing that you are a prisoner of circumstance, powerless before events.

The truth is, you are responsible for the life that you have, he says.

Mr Stephen Lew, a psychotherapist from the Positive Psychology Centre here, says: 'Happiness is a perception. It is a choice. It is possible only when you train your mind to do so. You need to build a mental muscle on a day-to-day basis.'

He suggests keeping a 'positive' journal in which you record three to five good things about yourself every day.

'If you record it for 21 days, there will be a physiological change. You will become more relaxed,' he says.

Another tip is to gaze in the mirror, look into your eyes and say three positive things to yourself.

Or you can wear a rubber band on your wrist and every time you start to think negatively, stretch the band to hit yourself. That will stop you from negative thinking, says Mr Lew.

In a lot of Mr Tan's leadership training and coaching sessions, leaders and employees are encouraged to make the choice to be extraordinary in their attitudes, skills and knowledge.

'If their minds are focused on becoming excellent at work, they probably will not have the time or mind to dwell on 'unhappiness',' says Mr Tan.

In an economically driven society like Singapore, people tend to peg the value of money to happiness.

Still, they may not realise that their material achievements such as an increment may not bring them a lot of happiness, says Mr Lew.

Research shows that gratitude such as recognition at work brings the largest amount of happiness while age, gender, physical attraction, social status and the amount of money one has have the smallest impact on happiness, he adds.

Happy managers and employees, says Mr Tan, are wonderful role models in the workplace. 'Like fragrance, they can infuse the place with their positive energy, causing others to also 'work happily'.'

Relax. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Happiness is largely a choice. Feel gratitude for all of the good in your life. Smile. ....

It is surely not possible to be happy 24/7 and when adversity strikes, happy people will still crack but they recover faster, experts say.

'Happiness is not just about feeling good, it is about living longer. You will also be more likeable and have better relationships if you are happy,' says Mr Lew.

Meditating on Romans 12:9-21 (part 8).
  • Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
  • Be devoted to one another in brotherly love.
  • Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
  • Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
  • Share with God's people who are in need.
  • Practice hospitality.
  • Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
  • Live in harmony with one another.
  • Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
  • Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
  • Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.
  • If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
  • Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.
  • On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap (remove) burning coals on his head."
  • Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
(Romans 12:9-21)
