Actress Gigi Lai (黎姿 Lí zī) celebrates 15th wedding anniversary

Former Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai (黎姿 Lí zī) took to Instagram to share a rare photo with her billionaire husband Patrick Ma (both above) on Jan 19.

The couple, who met after she retired from show business in 2008, celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary on Jan 18.

“Hand in hand, we have walked through 15 years together,” Lai wrote in Chinese on Instagram, along with a photo of her with her 67-year-old husband.

Lai, 56, also shared a photo of a bouquet of red peonies featuring a card with the inscription, “To my wonderful wife Gigi”. Portraits of the couple and their three children could be seen in the background.

Her abrupt retirement at the peak of her career in 2008 – to look after her younger brother, who had been involved in a serious car accident – took fans by surprise.

Lai married Mr Ma in 2009. They have three daughters – 13-year-old twin girls Patricia and Gianna, and Pegella, 12.

Gigi Lai Chi (born 1 October 1971) is a Hong Kong actress and Cantopop singer. Lai was under a contract with the TV station TVB and she retired in October 2008. She is popularly nicknamed by the Hong Kong media as the "Goddess of Beauty" (愛美神).

Gigi Lai is the grand-daughter of the famous Lai Man-Wai. Lai Man-Wai was one of the first generation filmmakers and has been nick named "Father of Hong Kong Cinema". However, Gigi's family went bankrupt and at the age of 14 she entered the entertainment industry to support her entire family.

Gigi is nicknamed "Goddess of Beauty" due to the selective nature in which she would pick her roles. If a role would affect her appearance on screen, Gigi would turn down those roles. However, recently, Gigi has changed and is taking roles that are great opportunities more than needing to appear beautiful on screen.

In 2004 Gigi won the TVB Most Popular Actress Award for her role as a concubine in "War and Beauty".
