PHOTO: In what way does Jesus speak to us when we read the Bible?
Jesus may choose to speak for us to hear with our physical ears, but more often than not, He speaks to our spiritual ears. How is this possible? He speaks through His Word. The two disciples on the road to Emmaus experienced the presence of the risen Christ primarily through the Scriptures. After He taught from the Scriptures, they recognised Him as their divine Teacher.
What Jesus did on that road to Emmaus, He continues to do in our lives today. He joins us on our personal journeys and speaks to us through His Word - if we read the Bible regularly enough and listen to Him carefully. This is accomplished through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who guides us to understand His truths (John 16:13).
we have received these Scriptures and the rest of the New Testament from Jesus. As we read the Scriptures, the Lord Jesus continues to teach us through His Word.
What is your personal experience (Jesus speak to us when we read the Bible) of this?
I don't understand how Scripture works.and feel that it is a little out of touch with the basic struggles of my daily lives. I know at some level that God spoke in his Word, but I don’t fully understand how it is relevant to my current life. I do not know how to apply it to my current situation. Certainly not because I don't revere or even worship God, and not because I don't think the Bible is valuable. It is just that I don't fully understand what God is instructing through his Word for me.
I know we shouldn't merely open the Bible and read it like we do any other book. We shouldn't set aside time to read the Bible because we want to be entertained in the same way a movie with entertain us, either. Instead, we should consider the basic function of Scripture. Maybe I am reading the wrong part of the Bible at the wrong time.
However, I manage to find a way to get instructions from the Bible when I am able t identify my problem. For example, if I have a problem related to "marriage", I will enter the key word "marriage" into the search box of the Bible Gateway application. Almost instantly it will come out with 20-30 of the relevant books, chapters and verses. This is one of the tools to search instructions for specific problems using the Internet.
What are some common reasons why people fail to listen to Jesus when reading the Bible?
We may have difficulty understanding some of what we read in the Bible because of our limited understanding and sinful mature.
What can they do to improve how they listen (listen to Jesus when reading the Bible)?
We have the help of the Holy Spirit, who will teach us and remind us of all that Jesus has taught (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13). As we read the Scriptures prayerfully and expectantly, the Holy Spirit will give us "the mind of Christ", allowing us to understand Scripture and grow in our relationship with Him (1 Corinthians 2:10-16).

Listening to Him through His Word [1]
The two disciples on the road to Emmaus did not recognise Jesus, even though they could see Him walking alongside (Luke 24:15-16). Their eyes were opened, however, after they listened to His teaching with open hearts and ears, and after He broke bread with them (Luke 24:31). They also recalled the "heart-burning" experience as He explained the Scriptures to them on the road (Luke 24:32). This contains an important clue as to how we can have a relationship with one who is invisible - by listening to Him.
Some may ask whether this means learning to hear Jesus literally, with our physical ears. Jesus may choose to speak in this way, but more often than not, He speaks to our spiritual ears. How is this possible? He speaks through His Word. The two disciples experienced the presence of the risen Christ primarily through the Scriptures. After He taught from the Scriptures, they recognised Him as their divine Teacher.

This is accomplished through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who guides us to understand His truths (John 16:13). Each time we open the Bible is an opportunity to sit at the feet of Jesus. Paul, who wrote a significant portion of the New Testament, described his teaching as "explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words" (1 Corinthians 2:13), He stressed that what he taughts, preached, and wrote came from the Lord Jesus (1 Corinthians 7:10; 11:23), and not from any other man. "Rather," he declared, "I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ" (Galatians 1:12). All Scripture is likewise divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21).

During the time of Jesus, there was no New Testament. Jewish teachers taught from the Hebrew Scriptures - what we now call the Old Testament. But Jesus revealed His truth to His disciples, and they in turn taught others. The Holy Spirit inspired some of them to write what we now call the New Testament.
These include, for example, Paul's letters, which were among the earliest writings of the new Testament. Galatians was written in AD 49, 1 Thessalonians in AD 51, 1 Corinthians in AD 55, and Romans in AD 57. From the earliest days, these epistles were already recognised by the church as containing divinely-inspired truth. Peter, who himself wrote two letters, testified that Paul's epistles were written "with the wisdom that God gave him", that he "writes the same way in all his letters", and that his letters "contain some things that are hard to understand" (2 Peter 3:15-16). He also included Paul's epistles as part of Scriptures (2 Peter 3:16).

Some of the instructions obtained using the search method could be very harsh and final. For example, "No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of their descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, not even in the tenth generation." (Deuteronomy 23:2) We may need to search what is meant by "forbidden marriage" using Google Search. It will provide the following explanation (a simpler one):
Incest in the Bible. Incest in the Bible refers to sexual relations between certain close kinship relationships which are prohibited by the Hebrew Bible. These prohibitions are found predominantly in Leviticus 18:8-18 and 20:11-21, but also in Deuteronomy.

Reading the Bible in sequential order may not provide the instructions to the current problems of our life, but by using the tools provided, the Bible can still provide the instructions as and when needed. It will be as Paul told Timothy:
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

And the powerful phrase in Hebrews 4:12-13:
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
