Athaliah and Jehosheba
The negative forces of our culture make us wonder where we're headed as a people. We show little integrity or morality, and dishonesty is overlooked in the workplace. Kindness is often the exception rather than the rule. But don't despair. This is not a battle God plans to lose. In the end, he will prevail!
PHOTO: Jehosheba saved Joash from Athaliah (Death)
"When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs. But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were about to be murdered; and they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom, from Athaliah, so that he was not killed. So he was hidden with her in the house of the Lord for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land." (2 Kings 11:1-3)
When Jehosheba saved Joash from Death he was only one year old. He was raised in secret by Jehosheba's husband, a priest named Jehoiada.

Jezebel - Wicked Queen of Israel
Only God is deserving of our worship, not the modern idols of materialism, wealth, power, or fame. Those who disobey God's commandments for their own greedy desires should expect horrible consequences. (Revelation 2:20)
PHOTO: The infamous Jezebel, wicked and manipulating wife of Ahab, is forced out of a window by her servants.
Jezebel was a villainess whose story was told in 1st and 2nd Kings, two books in the Hebrew and Christian Bible.
In the book of 1st and 2nd Kings she is the wife of the wicked King Ahab who was king of Israel. She is the archenemy of the prophet Elijah and has been known for several clashes with him.
She has many of God's prophets killed and tried to kill Elijah when he slew her prophets of Baal.
She also indirectly murders Naboth , a man who owned a vine yard because her husband desired it. So she has him stoned. Elijah then tells Ahab that God will punish him and the Phoencian princess.
Jezebel was portrayed by Paulette Goddard on the 1953 film The Sins of Jezebel.

Elijah and the Widow of Zarephath - When Sharing Means Starving
She blurted out despairingly, "By the living LORD your God I swear that I don’t have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour in a bowl and a bit of olive oil in a jar. I came here to gather some firewood to take back home and prepare what little I have for my son and me. That will be our last meal, and then we will starve to death."
Elisha said, "Don’t worry about it, lady." Don't worry about it.

Naaman's Valued Servant
Learn
to be humble and help others. Pray that we do not easily have a temper,
get offended and become angry. But to listen to the voice of the Lord
and others, soften our hearts, enlighten our understanding, and convert
our hearts to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Ask that through Him we may be
healed physically and spiritually.

Elisha and The Shunammite Woman (2)
In
life, God sends many unexpected people across our path. We meet them in
supermarkets, concerts, funerals social functions etc. Many times, we
may consider such meetings as irrelevant or even as irritants to our
busy schedule. But, could it be many times that God is sending them to
us unexpectedly, as a ‘Divine Appointment’, either as a blessing for them, or, maybe even for us, as it happened for the lady in 2 Kings 8? Such meetings are also blessed opportunities to share the Gospel.

Jeroboam's Wife and the Blind Priest Ahijah
Jeroboam
ignored God's promise of security, and instead turned to practices he
knew were sinful, hoping this would provide security. It didn't - it was
an unmitigated disaster.
Are there times when we, in spite of having excellent promises from God, ignore those promises and do things we know are sinful, hoping to gain things God has promised, but we don't trust him to deliver?
God's grace, patience and his desire for our repentance. Do not turned to practices which are sinful for security.

PHOTO: The Wife of Jeroboam and the Blind Prophet
King Jeroboam's son Abijah became deathly sick, and Jeroboam sent his wife to seek advice and help from the prophet Ahijah, who years ago had predicted Jeroboam's rise as king. She went in disguise, possibly because she was visiting in enemy territory, or possibly to avoid publicity over her son's illness.
But Ahijah, though old and blind, was not fooled by her disguise, having been instructed in advance by God. As soon as she arrived the prophet exposed her disguise and gave her a message from God for Jeroboam.

The Queen of Sheba Visits Solomon
Women played an important role in society and were equal to men in nearly all spheres, with civil, religious and military rights and duties much like a man’s.

King David and Abishag
Pray for Faith. When we are weak, and sometimes the way grows fearsome; for this world is filled with evil, hiding at every corner, ready to destroy our faith in God. We need help to keep our faith through every trial and doubt we are facing. The Holy Spirit will abide in us and make His presence known in everything we see and do.
David was really old and close to death, one of his sons decided not to wait for him to die but to have himself declared king. Abishag the Shunammite, service the king and attended to him. That must have make David able to gave orders for Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet to anoint Solomon as king and have him sit on David’s throne immediately.
PHOTO: Now King David was old and advanced in years. And although they covered him with clothes, he could not get warm. Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young woman be sought for my lord the king, and let her wait on the king and be in his service. Let her lie in your arms, that my lord the king may be warm.” (1 Kings 1:1-2) The young woman was very beautiful, and she was of service to the king and attended to him, but the king had no sexual relations with her (1 Kings 1:3-4).

Tamar - raped by half-brother Amnon and abandoned
If you’ve had an injustice done to you, God will deal with it. God will be a warrior on your behalf (Exodus 14:14;15:1-7)! He only asks for you to keep following Him, be patient, and continue on in love and good deeds until the day you are joined with Him in heaven so He can fully heal and comfort you in His arms. Be strong and courageous until that day!

Ahinoam from Jezreel - Woman of the Bible
(King David and Rizpah)
(King David and Rizpah)
Bring to God our burdens. He knows our situation and knows that we can't make it without Him. Ask Him to Comfort our heart, give us strength, & help us to carry on.
During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.” (Now the Gibeonites were not a part of Israel but were survivors of the Amorites; the Israelites had sworn to spare them, but Saul in his zeal for Israel and Judah had tried to annihilate them.) (2 Samuel 21:1-2).
PHOTO: David's retaliation for the Gibeonites included the execution of two of Saul's sons by Rizpah and five of the sons of Merab, Saul's eldest daughter. The dead were left hung as a public warning for all to see. Rizpah kept a horrendous (horrifying) watch for five months over the bodies of her sons, protecting them from being devoured by wild birds and animals. Her action must have prompt King David to "gathered up the bones of those who had been killed and exposed" and buried them at Zelah with the bones of Saul and Jonathan (2 Samuel 21:10-13).
But what could Rizpah do? The deaths of her sons had left her in a particularly vulnerable position; she was now only a widow and a childless one at that. Her sons were the property of the Gibeonites. She couldn’t ease her pain and grief by the normal tender ministrations of washing the bodies, wrapping them in oils and spices, followed by a burial in a family grave. Her sons were just left to be fodder for the appetites of vultures or large animals.
Thr Bible said "After that, God answered prayer in behalf of the land." (2 Samuel 21:14)

Abigail, Good in Discretion and Beautiful in Form - Woman of the Bible
We don’t need to have an important position to make a difference. We need not have to carry a great deal of authority but yet able to play a supporting role to assist others behind the scenes. No one may know about it, but the service can make a BIG difference just like Abigail’s did.
PHOTO: Beautiful Abigail Who Acted With Discretion
“Good in Discretion and Beautiful in Form”
Abigail was altogether different from Nabal. Her name means “My Father Has Made Himself Joyful.” Many a father is proud to have a beautiful daughter, but a wise father is far happier to discern inner beauty in his child. All too often, a person blessed with outward beauty fails to see the need to develop such qualities as discretion, wisdom, courage, or faith. Not so with Abigail. The Bible praises her for her discretion as well as for her beauty (1 Samuel 25:3).

Michal - Woman of the Bible
To despise and laugh at others can cause defensive action being taken against us.
The passage concludes (2 Samuel 6:23) with the remark that Michal remained childless all her life. There appears to be connection between the incident and this final statement, that she was barren as a punishment for her disrespect of her husband and King.
PHOTO: David wasn't in love with Michal, but she did give him an advantage in the fight for the kingdom. Michal lived with David at the palace where she helped him escape before. As punishment for her contempt, Michal was barren for the rest of her life. Being the institutor of marriage, God said wives are to respect their husbands, “for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church.” [Ephesians 5:23] That is true in the wife’s outward behaviour, and doubly so in the sentiments of her heart.

Hannah and Peninnah - Women of the Bible
Remind ourself to not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; choose to dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight in the Lord and He will give us the desires of our heart, which are to constantly seeking to glorify Him.
Be still and wait patiently on the Lord. Do not be jealous or covet another woman who succeeds in her ways or when she may carry out worldly schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath when we do not get what we want. We choose to be like Christ and not like these worldly women, for we know those who hope in Christ will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
PHOTO: This went on year after year. Whenever Hannah went up to the house of the LORD, her rival provoked her till she wept and would not eat. Her husband Elkanah would say to her, “Hannah, why are you weeping? Why don’t you eat? Why are you downhearted? Don’t I mean more to you than ten sons?” - The Story of Samuel's Mother.

Huldah the Prophetess - Woman of the Bible
When the lost truths of Scripture are recovered, we should apply them to life and morals, so that great and mighty changes can take place.
Huldah the Prophetess was consulted in order to bring understanding about the law book that had been found and what the king should do about it. Her prophetic message and the public reading of the law brought about a revival resulting in the reforms carried out by King Josiah.
PHOTO: Huldah the Prophetess (2 Kings 22:14)
a) She was the only Prophetess mentioned in the monarchical period, and the wife of Shallum, King Josiah's wardrobe keeper. She held such great esteem, that King Josiah sought her advice when the book of the Law was found in the Temple. She prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem "because they have foresaken Me and have burned incense to other gods" (2 Kings 22:16-17). But she added King Josiah would die peacefully, because Josiah had done what was right in God's sight, and the destruction would not happen before Josiah died.
b) The name Hulda means "weasel."

The Levite’s concubine - The Silence That Shouts
The abuse of women that began in Genesis comes full circle in Judges. The husbands of Israel were cut off from a full relationship with their wives simply by virtue of their subjugation (subdue) of them. While that is a great loss on its own, the greater loss is the fullness of the knowledge of God through the loss of relationship with half of his image – woman.
Jesus redeemed the events in Judges through his restoration of women. He brought women full circle back to the status they enjoyed at the outset of Judges when he commissioned Mary Magdalene, the first human to see the resurrected Lord, to “go and tell” the men (John 20:17-18) as Deborah had.

A biblical city left defenseless by depraved ways . . . . . .
Judges records a low time in the history of Israel. God’s beloved people are repeatedly given over to sin and idolatry, and are subject to enslavement by the Philistines and others.

Samson and Delilah - Never too late to humble yourself and return to God
God can use people of faith, no matter how imperfectly they live their lives.
We are just so like Samson. We know who we are in Christ. We know that God has chosen us to be salt and light in this world, yet there are times when we also have trouble with lust and women. For others, the trouble is with power, or money, or fame, but we are just like Samson. We really would go for our favorite sin, time and time again.
No doubt, as Samson sat in prison, blind and zapped of strength, Samson felt like a failure.
Samson finally realized his utter dependence upon God. Amazing grace. He once was blind, but now could see. No matter how far you've fallen away from God, no matter how big you've failed, it's never too late to humble yourself and return to God. Ultimately, through his sacrificial death, Samson turned his miserable mistakes into victory.

It is sadly ironic that, though identified as one of his nation’s foremost judges, Samson never made any attempt to drive Israel’s enemies out of the land. In fact, he was happy to interact with the Philistines, even to the point of marrying one of them. Though he was only interested in serving himself, the Lord would superintend Samson’s selfish choices to secure Israel’s deliverance and ensure Philistia’s demise (Judges 14:4).
