Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop with koala bear Paddle in the quarantine enclosure at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane last month.
The marsupial is one of four which will be given as a gift from Australia to Singapore in commemoration of Singapore's 50th birthday and 50 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
They are due to arrive next week and will be on loan at the Singapore Zoo for six months. The zoo is looking into the possibility of keeping them permanently if it is able to support a koala colony.
Marsupial: a mammal of an order whose members are born incompletely developed and are typically carried and suckled in a pouch on the mother's belly. Marsupials are found chiefly in Australia and New Guinea, and also in America.
