Each year, the customary district of Tokyo which is well famous as Asakusa is treated to the very unconventional view of samba girls who dance down the lane which is in front of Senso-ji temple, it is considered to be one of Tokyo’s most grand Buddhist temples.

A swirl of color which is very kaleidoscopic (succession of symmetrical designs) fills the lane as floats, dancers and musicians, move to the music of the beats of samba rather than a serious Buddhist hymn.

Asakusa’s Samba Carnival gets its christening from way back in 1981. The districts mayor at that point in time wanted the Rio de Janeiro Carnival’s champions to put on a show in the land of Asakusa.

It was so well-liked that the unconventional occurrence became a convention. In the present day the festival has turned out to be a 4 hour long procession of groups of samba from all over Japan.

There are at least 30 to 40 groups compete in three associations for awards each year. The top league consists of groups who take their samba sincerely while the other two associations are for the ones who are there generally for the amusement of it all.

The different groups select themes each year. These themes might be graceful like autumn leaves or sparkling jewelry or they might be humorous similar to the one I saw the current year where females had big doughnuts fasten with strapped to the shoulders.

Close to four thousand peoples play a part in the Samba parade each year. The bulk of the contestants are Japanese however there are in addition a large number of foreign persons who take part; most of which are Japanese Brazilians and Brazilians.

Most guests to come to the carnival are undoubtedly unconscious of this neither do they care. They come for Rio’s famous Carnival a taste they love; for the music, costumes, and magnificence of the entire thing. They love one thing and that is taking pictures well, lots of pictures.

The scantily-dressed samba women who best symbolize in most views the Carnival are the objects of thousands of visitors to snap away with their cameras in a passion of photo-graphical delight.

I am to some extent hesitant to consider all those pictures were taking those photographs exclusively for creative purposes merely for the reason that the designs of the women’s costumes of what little there were of them they were for sure so attractive.

On the other hand, I permitted ignorance to delightfully cloud my mind as I struggled for space among the thickly-huddled photographers to take my own videos and photographs.
