VISITORS to Dairy Farm Nature Park will now be able to enjoy a new eco trail. The 5km route, launched yesterday (15 May 2016), is one of 10 new North West Eco Trails being developed by the North West Community Development Council and Singapore Environment Council (SEC).

The 10 routes will cover a distance of almost 30km and be located in places such as Admiralty Park, Yishun Pond Park and Lower Peirce Reservoir Park. They will be opened in the next few months.

The eco trail at Dairy Farm Nature Park will lead visitors to the former Singapore Quarry which has been transformed into a wetland habitat.

Nature enthusiasts will be able to look out for different species of dragonflies, many of which are rare.

The trail will also lead visitors to the Wallace Education Centre. Named after British naturalist Alfred Wallace to honour his contributions to natural science, the centre allows visitors to learn the history of Dairy Farm Nature Park and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.

The Yishun Pond Park eco trail offers the chance to see South-east Asian rainforest tree species which can live up to 1,000 years and grow up to 80m.

Teo Ho Pin, Member of Parliament for Bukit Panjang SMC, launched the North West Eco Trails at Dairy Farm Nature Park along with about 100 community residents yesterday. They took a guided walk along the trail and saw fauna such as the Black-naped Oriole bird.

This reserve includes Singapore’s highest hill, Bukit Timah, at a mere 164m (538ft), and protects 163 hectares (403 acres) of the nation’s only virgin lowland rainforest. There are five walking trails, all clearly marked and with varying levels of difficulty, taking from 45 minutes to 2 hours to complete.
