Mayan prophecy driving up one-way flight searches to safe villages

LONDON - The Mayan calendar comes to an end on Dec 21 but, while many in Mexico will be celebrating a new start, some spiritualists believe the occasion will herald the apocalypse.

Bugarach in the south of France and Sirince in Turkey are places where some doomsday believers think they will be saved.

Figures from the flight booking website Skyscanner suggest that searches for flights to the south of France are up 41 per cent in the week before Dec 21, from the UK alone.

Sirince in Turkey is also experiencing a rush - with 30 per cent more searches for one-way flights recorded.

It is considered special as some believe it to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess Artemis and also the place where Mary, the mother of Jesus, ascended to heaven.

Meanwhile the mayor of the small village in Bugarach, in the French Pyrenees, has expressed concerns about the village being "flooded from all the corners of the earth".

Local authorities have banned UFO watchers and light aircraft from the flat topped mountain of Pic de Bugarach, which is regarded as an "alien garage" where extraterrestrials are waiting to abandon Earth, taking a lucky few humans with them.

-It is said that Artemis helped deliver her twin brother only minutes after she herself was born.
-Artemis promised her father, she would remain a virgin for her entire life, as far as anyone knows, she remained faithful to this promise.
-Artemis ran a 'hunt' with a group of women, who all swore to chastity and an oath to the hunt. -Artemis punished a young maiden called 'Callisto' who got seduced by Zeus and ended up pregnant. Legend says that Artemis turned Callisto into a bear as punishment.
-It is rumoured she only had one relationship/crush - a giant named Orion. Apollo got jealous of the time Artemis spent with him and so Apollo decided to put an end to it. He challenged Artemis  to prove her skill at archery by shooting at an object floating far out at sea.  Her shot was perfect, but the target turned out to be the head of Orion.

Artemis was the daughter of Zeus and Leto. her twin brother is apollo. she was known as the Master of Animals and also the protectress of children. she was also a hunter and goddess who could bring death with her arrows. She is considered the female ideal in Greek mythology.
